Joshua Fan

I'm Josh, currently a Lead UX researcher at IBM Sustainability Software, deeply immersed in the world of enterprise technology and helping large organizations make measurable progress on their carbon pledges through meaningful applications of emerging technologies.

From my early days hustling through a surprising variety of jobs, I've embraced a relentless work ethic and a drive for continuous learning; an approach that has not only fueled my career but also helped me channel imposter syndrome as motivation for growth.

In my role, I thrive on conducting user interviews, creating narratives around intricate business dynamics, and mapping out product strategies on UXR conspiracy theory-laden whiteboards. Whether deciphering ESG emissions factors or delving into data management puzzles, I'm dedicated to bridging the gap between user needs and innovative solutions.

Off-duty, you'll find me falling asleep to Paul Cooper's Fall of Civilization podcast, tripping over my own feet on badminton courts, or still trying to dine out on the time I drove my dubiously legal Japanese import across North America in 4.5 days...twice.

Once with wildfires.

A group photo (me standing in black at the back) from an absolutely fantastic week @ Austin Design HQ with (most of!) the IBM Sustainability SW UX Research team.

What a privilege to work with these talented bunch of architects, academics, transit planners, historians, psychologists, educators, and a million other unique backgrounds (competitive skeeball?) they bring to our research practice.

And of course, Stella the cross-fxnal matrix leader
